About Heat Pumps in Lewisville
Living in Lewisville means dealing with intense Texas heat, but it also requires a reliable heating solution when temperatures drop during the winter. A modern heat pump provides a versatile, all-in-one answer, efficiently cooling your home during our scorching summers and switching seamlessly to provide warmth when the weather cools. Whether you are looking for a professional heat pump installation to upgrade your current system or need a reliable heat pump repair to get your home back to comfort, our local expertise ensures your equipment runs at peak performance.
We specialize in comprehensive heat pump service, including advanced ductless mini-split solutions for homes without existing ductwork. By choosing an air source heat pump, Lewisville residents can enjoy superior energy efficiency and lower utility bills throughout the year. Always rely on a licensed and insured heat pump contractor to ensure your system is sized correctly and installed to meet the highest safety and performance standards.
Climate Considerations
Lewisville experiences a demanding climate, with average summer highs hitting 90.0°F and winter lows averaging 52.5°F. This fluctuation puts significant stress on traditional HVAC systems. A high-efficiency heat pump is uniquely suited for this environment because it moves heat rather than generating it, allowing for exceptional energy savings during the long cooling season while still maintaining a comfortable indoor climate during chilly Texas nights.
Heat Pumps Tips
Schedule professional maintenance twice a year—once before summer and once before winter—to ensure your heat pump operates at peak efficiency.
Keep the outdoor unit clear of debris, leaves, and tall grass to allow for proper airflow and prevent the system from overworking.
Change your air filters every 1 to 3 months to maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent airflow restrictions that stress the blower motor.
If your heat pump freezes up outside during a cold snap, check your filter first, then contact a certified technician to inspect for refrigerant leaks or defrost cycle issues.
When selecting a new system, always consult a licensed professional to perform a load calculation, ensuring the heat pump is properly sized for your specific home layout.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does heat pump installation cost and are there rebates available?
Installation costs vary based on the capacity and efficiency rating of the unit. We recommend checking for federal tax credits and local utility rebates that can significantly offset the initial investment.
How does a heat pump manage both heating and cooling?
A heat pump uses a reversing valve to change the direction of refrigerant flow, allowing it to extract heat from your home in the summer and pull heat from the outside air into your home during the winter.
Is a heat pump better than a traditional furnace and AC setup for Lewisville?
Heat pumps are highly efficient for the Texas climate. While furnaces are powerful, heat pumps provide superior energy savings by moving heat instead of burning fuel, making them an excellent choice for our moderate winters.
Why is my heat pump not heating or cooling, or why is it frozen outside?
Common issues include dirty filters, refrigerant leaks, or a failing defrost sensor. If you notice ice buildup on the outdoor unit, call a professional technician immediately to prevent compressor damage.
How long do heat pumps typically last with proper maintenance?
With regular professional maintenance, a high-quality air source heat pump can last between 12 to 15 years. Consistent care is the most important factor in maximizing its lifespan.
Should I choose a ductless mini-split or a traditional ducted heat pump?
Ductless mini-splits are ideal for room additions or homes without ductwork, offering zone control, while ducted heat pumps are usually the best choice for replacing existing central air systems.
What tax credits or incentives exist for installing a new heat pump?
Many homeowners qualify for federal energy-efficiency tax credits. We suggest visiting the ENERGY STAR website or consulting with your tax professional to identify current local and federal incentives.
How do you determine the right size heat pump for my home?
A professional contractor uses a Manual J load calculation, which accounts for your home's square footage, insulation levels, window placement, and local climate to ensure the unit is neither too large nor too small.
What is auxiliary or backup heat, and why does it run?
Auxiliary heat is a secondary heating source, usually electric heat strips, that kicks in when the temperature drops below the heat pump's efficiency threshold or when the system needs to defrost.
What should I expect during the heat pump installation process?
A professional installation includes removing the old unit, modifying electrical or refrigerant lines as needed, installing the new equipment, testing for leaks, and verifying that the system reaches optimal comfort levels.
